This all started when I volunteered to run the social media for my school's lacrosse team. I was recording with just my phone! My name is Faith Somers and I currently attend Penn State University in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications majoring in Telecommunications at University Park. I am apart of COMMRadio & Penn State Sports Night on campus. I do board operation and photography for COMMRadio and tech crew for PSSN.
I hope to one day work in the PWHL or the NHL in media, especially after my experience interning with my local hockey team the Fayetteville Marksmen. I fell in love with hockey and I absolutely love capturing these games and memories for socials, or for the players & their loved ones to look back on and cherish.
I have worked in sports media throughout my Junior and Senior year of high school. For the 2023-24 season I was an intern for the Fayetteville Marksmen Hockey team's media. There I recorded clips for the Instagram socials as well as for recap videos used on socials and the jumbotron.
This was the same year I had reached out to my school's lacrosse coach and started running the social media for the team. I went to various games and events creating recap videos, graphics, and interviews to go on the Instagram.
Following this, during my Senior year I went to various sport events/games at my high school taking photos and videos for the teams for fun. I have also started running socials for the football team doing the same thing I did before, creating graphics and recap videos. I also continued my role as the social media manager of the lacrosse team.
After high school graduation, I joined COMMRadio at Penn State and started creating graphics for the Women's Hockey insider and take photos for the organization.
